Terms and terminologies in the Tourism Industry
Hello guys...
Today we'll be acquainting ourselves with some terms and terminologies used in the Tourism industry.
"In traveling, a man must carry knowledge with him, if he would bring home knowledge."
So as we embark on this adventure, it wouldn't hurt if we learnt one or two to broaden our knowledge base.
So the following are basic words sort of the nitty gritty used in the Tourism industry.
Adventure - an exciting and unusual journey or experience.
Attraction - physical or cultural attributes of a place that can intrigue and satisfy a visitor's need for recreation or leisure.
Business Tourist - a person whose main purpose of travelling out or going on a tourism trip is for business only.
Cruise - a holiday in which you travel on a ship or boat and visiting a number of places during the journey.
Dark Tourism - involves travelling to places historically associated with deaths and tragedies. Like war sites.
Destination - the place visitors travel to. Also called host country.
Domestic Tourism - this comprises of all activities of a resident visitor within the native country.
Domestic Tourism trip - this is travelling that a domestic visitor embarks on within the native country.
Ecotourism - involves the preservation, conservation and enhancement of the ecosystem while on a tourism trip. Creates awareness on the environmental impact of travel.
Excursion - a short trip made for fun and pleasure usually involving a group of people.
Excursionist - a visitor whose trip doesn't include an overnight stay. Also called same day visitor.
Expedition - a journey that has a purpose about discovering a particular place that is not well known.
Heritage Sites - are popular tourist destinations under the care of UNESCO for possessing certain cultural or environmental significance.
Inbound Tourism - refers to activities of a non resident visitor within the native country after travelling into the said country.
Internal Tourism - refer to activities of domestic and inbound Tourism ie. activities of resident and non resident visitors within the native country.
International Tourism - this comprises of inbound tourism and outbound tourism. Collection of activities of resident visitors outside the host country and non resident visitors in host country.
International Visitor - a person on a tour or tourism trip within the host country or just a non resident visitor travelling in the host country or resident travelling outside the native country.
Landmark - a building or a place that is very important because of its historical importance.
Native country - your country of birth or residence.
Natural Tourism - comprises of all activities resident visitors within and outside the native country. It includes domestic and outbound tourism.
Non Residents - are individuals whose vested interests are located outside the native country.
Outbound Tourism - comprises of activities of a resident visitor outside the native country.
Passport - official documents that identifies you as a citizen of a particular country and will be needed when traveling to another country.
Recreation - activities carried out during free/leisure time.
Residents - are individuals whose vested interests especially the economic interests are located in the native country.
Resort - a place where alot of visitors are attracted to and go on vacations there.
Safari - a trip undertaken to see the rich wildlife of Africa.
Tourism - act of visiting another country for a particular reason away from one's home.
Tourist - a visitor who travels to a country different from his or her residence for atleast a night or less than a year.
Travel - activity of travellers involving moving between different locations for any purpose or duration.
Travel Group - individuals or travel parties who are together on a journey or travel. Common among camping and package tours.
Trip - a journey you make to a place and back again.
Visa - a stamp put on your passport when you are visiting a foreign country.
Visitor - is a person undertaking a trip to tourist destination outside his or her home/environment for a period of time usually less than a year for any reason. There are classes of visitors - excursionist, tourists, residents and non residents.
